JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)’s National Service Scheme (NSS) wing in partnership with Kalagangotri, a Bengaluru-based NGO that promotes performing plays and conducts workshops on acting skills, hosted Swatantrya Amruta Mahotsav Bharata @75. The event, adhering to covid protocols, was hosted on September 1, 2021, at the JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) J C Road campus. Around 120 students, including NSS faculty coordinators from other campuses, participated in the event.
Students from JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) - Performing Arts Department sang the state anthem ‘Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanu Jaate’, as the dignitaries lit the lamp. The event was inaugurated by Sri. Pratap Lingaiah, State NSS Officer, NSS Cell, Government of Karnataka in the presence of Dr. N.V.H Krishnan, Registrar, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Prof.Sridhara Murthy, Director, Academics, and Planning JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Dr. Rajani Jairam, Dean, Students’ Welfare, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Dr.B.V. Rajaram, Director, Kalagangotri, Bengaluru.
Dr. Rajani Jairam welcomed the dignitaries, guests, audience, and participants. Dr. R Sreenivasaiah, NSS Program Officer, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), gave an introductory speech reflecting on the significance of organizing such events. Sri Pratap Lingaiah appreciated the social service work undertaken by the faculty and students of the university. Addressing the NSS volunteers, Prof Sridhara Murthi and Dr. N.V.H Krishnan shared their valuable insights and advice. The Kalagangotri team performed a drama ‘Sihi Kahi Kathana’, written by Sri. Srivatsa K.L. and directed by Dr. B.V. Rajaram. Musical ensemble by Smt. Sridevi Gartikere, Smt. Chandni and her team introduced a euphonious vibe to the gathering. A talk on Malnutrition and Gender Inequality by Dr. Na Someshwar of the DD Chandana ‘Thatt anta Heli’ fame was next. He also conducted an engaging quiz session for the students and distributed books as prizes.
The master of ceremonies for the program was Prof. Rajeshwari Y.M., HoD of Kannada, School of Commerce, CS, and IT JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). To conclude, Dr. Geetha Madhusudan, Head of Department - Samskrita at School of commerce, CS and IT JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), offered the vote of thanks.
2A/5 Company of 7 Karnataka Battalion NCC, Bangalore Group ‘B’, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) celebrated its 25th Company Raising Day on September 04, 2021. From its inception on September 01, 1996, the cadets and leadership of 2A/5 Company, a source of pride for the JAIN Group, have endeavored to rise to the highest standards and expectations of the NCC and its founding vision. One of the most awarded companies in the country, 2A/5 has contributed 29 officers to the Indian Army, 03 officers to the Indian Navy, won 13 Best Institution Awards of Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate, and numerous other state and national awards/commendations under the able leadership of Major Arvind Kumar, the Company Commander.
The silver jubilee celebration witnessed an august audience of serving officers, ex-servicemen, principal officers of the university, former cadets, and present cadets of the company. The program commenced with an invocation song and dance performance by NCC girl cadets, following the welcome address by Dr. Trivedi Nikunj P – Caretaker Officer of 2A/5 Company. Dr. Chenraj Roychand – Chancellor, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) went down memory lane while recalling the initial years of the company and its rise to fame. He highlighted the mammoth role which NCC plays in shaping the young minds of the country. He concluded his speech by acknowledging the selfless and distinguished service of Major Arvind Kumar, in making the company a role model for others to emulate.
The function had Air Commodore B.S. Kanwar, VSM – Deputy Director-General of Karnataka and Goa NCC Directorate as the chief guest. In his ceremonial address, he stressed the importance of character building, which is one of the founding objectives of NCC. The chief guest acknowledged and appreciated the ecosystem provided by the JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), which paved the way for the 2A/5 Company to attain great heights within 25 years. Air Commodore B.S. Kanwar concluded his speech by sharing his scintillating philosophical vision of the NCC with the audience.
One of the most awaited moments of the event was the felicitation of Major Arvind Kumar for completing his tenure as an Associate NCC Officer (ANO) of the company. The former and present cadets of the company gave a standing ovation to their mentor and guide. This was followed by Dr. Dinesh Nilkant, Director – CMS, CMS Business School, and Dean of Faculty of Management, and Major Arvind Kumar giving away a memento of achievement to the high achievers of the company and offering a token of appreciation and support to the dignitaries present at the event. Dr. Dinesh Nilkant proposed the vote of thanks and revealed the plan of bringing out the exemplary achievements of the 2A/5 Company in the form of a memoir in the future.
JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), School of Commerce conducted a guest lecture at the Jayanagar campus on August 24, 2021, under the title Environmental Conservation and Pollution Control for students pursuing Bachelor of Management Studies. Dr. Srinivasulu IFS, Member Secretary, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board delivered the session as the guest speaker. The session mainly focused on the 3rd-semester students studying environmental studies as a compulsory subject, as per the UGC norms. The session was open to all to facilitate students of other institutions as well. Around 300 students and faculty members across India attended the event. The event was organized by Dr. G.Saravana Kumar - Associate professor and coordinated by Dr. Amrinder singh - Associate Professor, and Dr. Maheswari - Associate professor.
The guest speaker covered the causes for pollution in the air, water, and soil along with the waste management scenarios in Bengaluru. He said, “Around 1200 tons of solid waste is generated every day in Bengaluru out of which only 50 percent is processed.” He highlighted that it is the collective responsibility of citizens to dispose waste from their houses in a segregated manner; wet, dry, and recyclable. He said, “Just 50 years ago, there were around 1000 water bodies in Bengaluru, and now the city has 80 water bodies. It shows that the water bodies have shrunk, and the green cover has also reduced (at least by 40 percent) over the last 50 years.” His statements were backed by verified data and facts, and his speech followed a Q&A session.
The event was live-streamed on YouTube and generated a positive response from the audience. The session created awareness among students and enriched the knowledge of the faculty members associated with the subject. Dr. Maheswari - Associate professor and subject coordinator proposed a vote of thanks, bringing the session to its end.

Enactus- The Enactus forum at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), in collaboration with Srinivasan Service Trust (A CSR arm of TVS), organized a community empowering program at Gudalur, a taluk in Tamil Nadu and came with an innovative idea as a part of their project called Upcycling to support families, and rebuilding communities for a sustainable and brighter future.
Enactus- The Enactus Forum at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), in collaboration with the Enactus Forum of IIT Delhi, embarked on a mission to secure the health and safety of thousands of frontline warriors working non-stop to keep us safe. The Forum, under the banner “Together We Care” worked zealously to procure face-shields and distribute amongst the healthcare soldiers in various districts of Karnataka.
